  • State reportedly issues orders regarding selection of site
  • Panel inspects sites at Sarangapur, Dichpally

NIZAMABAD : The high power committee headed by the Andhra Pradesh State Higher Education Council chairman K.C. Reddy has reportedly selected a place between Suddhapally and Nadipally in Dichpally mandal for the newly sanctioned university to Nizamabad district.

Orders regarding selection of the site are said to have been issued by the Government on recommendation of the committee on April 29. The place is located adjacent to the Dichpally-Nizamabad road connecting the National Highway-7.

    Visit district twice

The committee comprising Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Vice-Chancellors of Osmania University and Nagarjuna University and some three other higher officials visited the district twice to see proposed locations for the university. They inspected the land at Sarangapur, 8 km from the district headquarters and also a couple of other sites around Dichpally.

The selection of site had triggered controversy at one stage with MLAs Bajireddy Govardhan (Banswada) and G. Ganga Reddy (Dichpally) openly criticising the Minister for Rural Development D. Srinivas that he was influencing the committee to select the site at Sarangapur.

They contended that Dichpally surroundings would be suitable for the location of university as it was adjacent to the National Highway and conveniently placed for students of four districts -- Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar and Medak. Mr. Srinivas, however, denied their allegation and said he was not interested in the issue. Former Minister Mandava Venkateswar Rao hailed the committee's selection and said the site would be convenient in all respects.
