Residents protest delay in construction of halt station

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Federation of Residents' Welfare Associations at Nemmilichery protested the delay in the construction of the halt station between the western suburbs of Pattabiram and Thiruninravur railway stations recently. Oral orders had been given by the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad in September 2004. The station was sanctioned and tenders called for in June 2005.

The Federation held a special general body meeting and has pointed out that though the target set for completion was December 2005, the contractor has not begun work. The contractor had stated that the Tiruvallur district revenue authorities had not granted permission to remove soil required for levelling the platform. The authorities allege that he gave a wrong survey number of the area. The Federation wanted the work commence immediately or fresh tenders be called for.
