CHENNAI: A national conference on `application-oriented materials' was organised by the Department of Physics, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed University), Kattankulathur, recently.

Placid Rodriguez, former Director of IGCAR, who inaugurated the meet, said the discovery and development of new application-oriented materials represented a national core competency that was essential for scientific progress and long-term economic growth.

Researchers and scientists from C-Met, Hyderabad, Anna University, Madras University, Pondicherry University and Mother Theresa Women's University delivered lectures covering different areas of `Applied Material Technology'.
