HYDERABAD: Straight in the line but exactly on the opposite side. This Thursday, if you want to see jupiter, just train your gaze in the skies directly opposite the setting sun. Known as Jupiter Opposition, the phenomenon will have the planet rising in the eastern horizon as the sun readies to dip around 6.34 p.m. A planet is said to be in opposition when it is directly opposite the sun from a viewpoint on the earth. The Andhra Pradesh Forest Academy, Doolapalli which has installed an astronomical telescope is organising a `Jupiter Opposition Session and Nature Camp' for school students and teachers on its premises from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. The session includes nature trail programme, nature study camp along with live observation of Planet Jupiter. "Jupiter will rise by 6.34 p.m. on that day and will be brightly visible in eastern sky for the next few days. Four satellites of jupiter can also be seen with a good astronomical telescope," Academy Director P. Mallikharjuna Rao said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
Free pick-up
For schoolchildren and teachers interested in taking part in the camp, the Forest Academy is arranging free transportation facility from Aranya Bhavan, opposite Reserve Bank of India at 2.30 p.m. Details can be had from the Academy (Ph. 98484-53102 or 93475-11132). "Jupiter will be visible for almost entire night," Y. Ravi Kiron, coordinator for Association of Amateur Astronmers, said.
