Bangalore: The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and the German Technical Cooperation are organising a two-day national-level workshop on the draft of model legislation on e-waste WEEE (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment) from Wednesday. According to a press release here on Tuesday, Minister for Environment C. Chennigappa will inaugurate the workshop. Bhishma Narayan Singh, former Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development, will be the chief guest at the valedictory function. Mr. Chennigappa will release the first newsletter of e-waste agency, Southern Region, called "eNAM" (EWA newsletter for awareness and management). Inspired by the speech delivered by A. Raja, Union Minister for Environment and Forests, during the Eco-Asia Summit 2005 in Tokyo, the International Cooperation and Sustainable Development division of the Union Ministry began working towards assessing e-waste and structuring the e-waste agenda in the country with cooperation from German Technical Cooperation under the Indo-German Environment Programme, Advisory Services in Environmental Management.
