Letters to the Editor
The ghastly act of terror that claimed 35 innocent lives in Jammu on Sunday is reprehensible. The Government cannot bury the incident by merely offering condolences. It must act tough and launch a military offensive against suspected militant hideouts. It must send a warning across the border that such acts will not be tolerated. Innocent lives cannot be forfeited in the name of a peace process.
Sutirtha Sahariah,
The killing has brought to the fore the menace of terrorism afflicting Kashmir. The LeT and Hizb militants will achieve nothing from such massacres, least of all a solution to the Kashmir issue. While the governments of India and Pakistan are busy romanticising the peace process, the ground reality is there for all to see.
N. Divakar,
The serial massacre clearly demonstrates that Indians are soft targets in their own homeland. Routine statements by politicians such as "we will not be cowed down" and "we will bring the perpetrators to justice" are not enough. What we ordinary citizens want is results on the ground. It is not impossible for one of the most efficient militaries in the world to hunt down militants in the Valley if there is sufficient political will at the top.
Sannapareddy Krishna Reddy,
Akhil Kumar,
The killing should be treated as the last straw on the camel's back and the Government should seriously address itself to containing the terrorist menace once and for all. It is time some drastic action was taken.
K.R. Ganesan,
