TAMBARAM : Navjot Singh Sidhu, MP and former test cricketer was his typical self while campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate in Tambaram Assembly constituency, V.R. Sivaraman. Travelling in an open jeep through the narrow lanes and by-lanes of Madipakkam, Sidhu, also known as Sherry received a good response from the residents and passers-by. Young and old shook hands with him and told him they loved to hear his cryptic comments on on television.
Seeks votes
As the announcer in the jeep said 'Sixer' Sidhu had come to their town to seek their votes. And as the convoy reached the Ponni Amman Koil near the Madipakkam bus terminus, Sidhu made a brief speech starting off by saying he had come to Tamil Nadu with a special request. "In the past 50 years, Dravidian parties have ruled Tamil Nadu, and yet, they have done nothing. I know you that are strong and have the capability of changing things. When I was young, I used to hit a sixer and throw the ball out of the boundary.
`Bamboo tree'
But you are more powerful than me. When you hit the sixer in the elections this time, you will throw both the DMK and AIADMK out of Tamil Nadu. I have no doubt about that." He went on: "Both the DMK and AIADMK look tall like the bamboo tree." "They are tall but they are hollow inside. But people like Sivaraman look small, but are strong and sweet both from within and outside," as the crowd cheered him. Pointing out that the rival parties in Tamil Nadu were making promises during elections, he wondered what they were doing while in power. "All these while, they were in deep slumber and have done nothing," he said. Earlier, Sidhu canvassed votes for BJP candidates in Triplicane and Chepauk candidates at the Marina.
