Thiruvananthapuram: Air-India Express, the no-frills airline of Air-India, which has completed one year of its successful operation to the Gulf countries, will soon fly to Bahrain and Doha. The airline, launched amid fanfare on April 29, 2005, by operating the inaugural flight on the Thiruvananthapuram-Abu Dhabi sector, has since then considerably expanded the network. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel were the VVIP's who travelled on the inaugural flight from the city. Commencing operations with three leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft and operating from five airports in India to six destinations in the Gulf, Air-India Express has now five aircraft. The flights are being operated from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mumbai and Delhi to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Muscat, Salalah and Sharjah.
