Dharmapuri: The Hogenakkal Comprehensive Water Supply Scheme will be implemented if the AIADMK is voted to power, the Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo, Jayalalithaa, said here on Tuesday. The State Government has prepared the project at an estimate of Rs. 1,005 crore. A proposal has already been sent to the Centre for approval. The project would be implemented by availing of financial assistance from Japan. A total of 2,248 rural habitations have been fully covered with drinking water supply and 1,354 villages partially provided water supply, thanks to implementation of various canal schemes to the tune of Rs. 48 crore in Krishnagiri district during her regime. Ms. Jayalalithaa also promised to establish a Mango Export Zone in Krishnagiri if the AIADMK comes back to power. About one lakh mango producers would benefit from this zone. Along with this, steps would also be initiated to boost the export of mangoes from Krishnagiri district. On her recent announcement to provide half-a-sovereign of gold, the Chief Minister said gold would be provided to girls belonging to all communities irrespective of number of girls in a family at the time of marriage. It would be applicable to girls of families living below the poverty line and beneficiaries of Farmers Security Scheme.
ID cards to farmers
Listing out the welfare schemes implemented in Krishnagiri district during her regime, Ms. Jayalalithaa said identity cards were provided to 2.53 lakh farmers. A sum of Rs. 14.47 lakh was disbursed as flood relief to 1,182 persons in the district. An amount of Rs. 4 lakh was distributed as solatium to families of eight persons who died in the recent floods. The Chief Minister said free bicycles were given to 20,684 students besides free textbooks to 2,38,869 students in the district. Chief Minister also inaugurated the AIADMK party office at Dharmapuri. She was given a rousing reception at Krishnagiri, Kaveripattinam, Kambainallur and Odasalpatti. Later addressing a meeting at Ambur on Monday, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that her Government had fulfilled all the promises made to the people. Canvassing for the Indian National League candidate K. Mohammed Ali, she assured that if her party is elected to power again, it would not restrain from fulfilling the promises made to the people including her announcement to supply 10 kg of free rice to all cardholders.
