MYSORE: Miscreants broke into a house at Gokulam here on Monday night and made away with valuables worth Rs. 80,000. The burglary took place at the residence of Prakash Rao, an employee of J.K. Tyres, when Mr. Rao was in Chickmagalur with his family. When Mr. Rao returned to his house situated on Post Office Road in Gokulam on Tuesday, he was aghast to find the front door broken open and the house ransacked. He soon realised that valuables, including gold and silver jewellery, besides electronic goods, were missing from the house. The police said the miscreants gained entry into the house by breaking open the front door lock and carried away gold ornaments, including a chain, finger rings, ear hangings and a pair of bangles kept in an unlocked wardrobe. The miscreants also took away a TV set, a VCD player and a desktop computer. Mr. Rao lodged a complaint at the V.V. Puram police station. The police visited the spot with the dog squad and fingerprint experts. The dogs led the police up to the V.V. Puram autorickshaw stand. A case has been registered and investigation is underway. Monday night's crime is among a series of burglaries being reported in the city since the last couple of weeks ever since the vacation season began. Several households have been burgled by miscreants taking advantage of the absence of people from their home during the vacations.
