Kandyan dance

Sri Lanka, being promoted to tourists as a "little island with a lot to see," has a varied landscape within its shores.

There are the cool uplands, tea plantations, beaches and the arid north and east regions, which are now unfortunately scenes of conflict.

The display of talent by Kandyan dancers here on Monday was part of a promotion campaign organised by Sri Lanka Tourism Board. Internal problems had not affected tourism, the board's assistant director Madhubani Pereira said.

Most hotels in Colombo had over 90 per cent bookings, and more than 20 per cent of tourists were from India, he added.
