BANGALORE: Members of the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council on Tuesday sought to know the civic body's role in facilitating the metro rail operations in the city. Addressing presspersons here, the BJP leader A.H. Basvaraju said it was important to know whether the BMP had prepared any designs to align the roads where the metro rail tracks have been planned. "What is the BMP's contribution to the this mega project? Have the officials planned improvement of service roads and pavements along the Metro Rail routes? The BMP budget for 2006-2007 does not allocate any funds for supplementing the project from the BMP side," he said. Asserting that the Mayor Mumtaz Begum should pay more attention to development works, Mr. Basvaraju held her responsible for the delay in execution of several projects. "We want her to direct the officials to ensure that deadlines of all projects are met," he said.
Water supply
Alleging that the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board was not doing enough to meet water crisis, he pointed out that water supply to most of the Nirmala Bangalore toilet blocks had also been disconnected. "It is learnt that the BMP owes money to the BWSSB because of which the water supply is disconnected. This is something which needs to be attended to immediately," he added.
