House burgled; cash, jewellery stolen

BANGALORE: Miscreants broke into the house of Venkatanarayana in Banashankari police station limits and decamped with Rs. 10 lakh and gold jewellery worth about Rs. 5 lakh on Monday night.

Police said Venkatanarayana was sleeping alone in the house located in Obalappa Garden, when the culprits entered through the terrace door and decamped with the valuables.

Suicide

A housewife allegedly set herself ablaze in the Nandini Layout police station limits late on Monday night reportedly after a quarrel with her husband. She died later at the Victoria hospital.

Police said Vijayalakshmi and her husband, Kanikaraj, had a quarrel at about 11 p.m. following which she doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze. Kanikaraj tried to rescue her but sustained burns in the process. Neighbours rushed the couple to Victoria hospital.

The two were married for the last nine years and had two children. Both were employed in a garment factory.

]On Monday, Vijayalakshmi brought her two children from her mother's house in Koramangala, police said.

Arrested

A man accused of killing his wife on July 23, 2005, has been arrested by the Mahadevapura police. Murugesh had allegedly killed his wife after hitting her with a grating tool at their house in Kaverinagar, and escaped.

According to police, the accused had given the slip to the police and was hiding in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu before he was arrested last week.

Held on gambling charge

The Mico Layout police arrested eight persons on charges of gambling near a lodge on 100-Foot Ring Road. The police also seized Rs. 22,000 cash from them.

Chain snatched

A woman was relieved of her gold chain in the Mahadevapura police station limits late on Monday night.

The victim was returning from a relative's wedding at Whitefield when an unidentified man snatched her chain and fled.

The Mahadevapura police have registered a case.

Recovered

The J.P. Nagar police arrested Srinivas alias Seena (21), a resident of Urs Colony, Tilaknagar, and recovered from him four gold chains, a mobile phone and a motorcycle, together worth about Rs. 2 lakh.

The accused, along with an accomplice, Bala, had allegedly robbed the phone from Chourasia in J.P. Nagar 3rd stage. He had also allegedly stolen gold chains from houses in J.P. Nagar, police said.

Burgalry

Miscreants burgled a house in R.T. Nagar Police Station limits on Sunday night and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs. 2.5 lakh.

The incident occurred at the house of Syed Farooq Basheer at Chamundinagar Main Road, police said. Bashir was out of station and one of his relatives, who saw the front door broken open, informed the police. The RT Nagar Police have registered a case.
