BMP plans action against illegal use of basement parking

Civic body to discuss pay-and-park scheme today


  • Zonal Deputy Commissioners told to issue notices to violators of building bylaws
  • BMP and the police have identified 111 structures with violations
  • Police give list of 198 places where paid parking could be brought back.

    BANGALORE: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has decided to take action against owners of multi-storeyed complexes where basement parking space has been illegally put to other use.

    At a meeting held to discuss traffic regulations here on Tuesday, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.N. Reddi requested the BMP authorities to take action against such buildings.

    The meeting was attended by officials of the BMP, traffic police, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation.

    Notices

    BMP Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam has directed the zonal Deputy Commissioners to issue notices to violators of building bylaws. The BMP and the police have jointly identified 111 structures with violations. "The BMP officials would file caveats in the appropriate court before taking up any demolition activity," Mr. Jothiramalingam told The Hindu .

    Pay-and-park scheme

    The meeting also discussed the list of paid parking areas that the police had recently submitted to the BMP. The police had given the BMP a list of 198 places in which they recommended paid parking be brought back.

    Identified places

    Some of the areas that the police have recommended for the pay-and-park scheme include Subedar Chatram Road, Sajjan Rao Road, Sajjan Rao Circle, 7th Cross and Bazaar Street in Chamarajpet, Jayanagar 8th `F' Main Road (22nd cross to 27th cross), Jayanagar 9th Main Road (Canara Bank Circle to Syndicate Bank circle), Jayanagar 9th Main Road (4th block bus-stand to RV Dental College), Jayanagar 27th Main Road, Jayanagar 30th cross, J.P. Nagar 24th Main Road (Arvind Circle to 7th cross), Mayo Hall and Cauvery Emporium to Museum Road junction.

    BMP officials said that the issue of paid parking would be debated in the heads of department meeting on Wednesday.
