Raichur: A bandh was observed in the project area of the Hutti Gold Mines Company Limited and Hutti village in Lingsugur taluk on Tuesday. The bandh was total and peaceful. Though most of the shops and other establishments remained closed, the functioning of the company was not affected. The bandh call was given by 25 families whose lands were acquired by the company for mining. They were on an indefinite relay fast at the project area since Wednesday. They were demanding that the Government provide jobs to their kith and kin and release appropriate compensation against the land acquired by the company. But the management refused to meet their demands stating that it already paid compensation for the land acquired and recruited eligible ones from the affected families. However, the agitating families decided to continue their dharna.
Discussion held
District in-charge Minister Hanumanthappa Alkod held a discussion with the agitators. Amaregouda Bayyapur, former Minister; Tushar Girinath, Deputy Commissioner; R. Hitendra, SP; D.Y. Venkatesh, general manager of the company; H.B. Murari, president of Lingsugur taluk panchayat and Amaragundappa Nelgi, labour leader, also participated in the discussion. The families withdrew their agitation after the Minister assured them that their demands would be considered after verifying the records at a meeting of the company scheduled to be held on May 15 in Bangalore.
