Long power cuts again

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: As if the major `blackout' on Monday night due to closure of the Badarpur Thermal Power Station were not enough, large parts of the Capital again went without power for several hours on Tuesday. While Delhi Transco claimed that the peak demand was 3,027 MW and there was 199 MW shedding, a distribution company said peak load shedding totalled 450 MW. The fact remained that several colonies such as Rohini, Pitam Pura, Paschim Vihar, Hari Nagar, Mayapuri, Bhikaji Cama Place, East of Kailash, Preet Vihar and South Extension experienced frequent power cuts.

A resident of C-1 Block, Janakpuri, Sangeeta Sharma, said that during the night there was no power for around three hours, while again at 11 in the morning there was a two-hour cut. "The worst part is that there is nowhere one can complain and no one to inform you about the reason for the cut."

At Vasant Vihar in South West Delhi too there were frequent and intermittent power cuts between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

A resident of the colony said the problem about such cuts was that as they happen very frequently a lot of time is wasted in starting the generator.

For residents of Mayur Vihar Phase I and its extension areas, which only received power supply at around 3 am following the Badarpur plant closure, there were more cuts in store in the afternoon.

Harish Gupta of Model Town complained of three or four cuts of about half-an-hour to one hour each.
