Dastardly act, says Jayalalithaa

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has condemned the murder of Hyderabad engineer K. Suryanarayana by Taliban militants in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

In a statement here on Tuesday, she said: "This is a dastardly act of terror, obviously aimed at pressuring all peace-loving Indians, who are involved in the task of reconstruction of Afghanistan, to leave that country and to derail the efforts of permanent restoration of democracy."

She appealed to the Indian citizens to condemn the senseless and ghastly murder, besides solemnly resolving to stand firm against such actsof terror. "We must continue to stand for democracy and peace, and take the lead to defeat the sinister designs of such violent groups and terrorists."

Ms. Jayalalithaa conveyed her sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family. "I pray to the Almighty to grant them the strength to bear this tremendous loss."
