31 lift irrigation schemes for Kurnool, says Minister

FOR RYOTS TO HEAR: Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa addressing farmers at Kurnool on Tuesday.

KURNOOL: Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa said 31 lift irrigation schemes costing Rs 151 crores were sanctioned for Kurnool district. Addressing farmers after inaugurating the division level convention of farmers on Tuesday, he said the farmers should know the value of land, water, seed, and fertilizers. He said the ongoing "jalayagnam" would not only provide water to lands but power too.

Later the Minister went round the exhibition and had community lunch with the farmers.

MLA M.A. Gafoor called upon the officials to take measures for checking spurious seed in the next season. Mayor Raghurami Reddy said farmers should have additional sources of income like dairy and poultry. Two milch cattle could give an income of Rs 50,000 in a year.

Collector Vikas Raj advised the agriculture officials to prepare booklets on management of each crop. He said farmers should cultivate risk-free crops in certain amount of land. Joint Collector Ramsankar Naik, Chairman of Agriculture Market Yard Rambhupal Reddy and others spoke.
