KURNOOL: In a rare interaction with the Collector Vikas Raj, the HIV-positive people poured out their woes and explained how they were hounded by society. Besides, bearing the brunt of the disease, the HIV-positive families were shunted from house to house as property owners refused to let out their houses to them. Also, livelihood was a serious challenge before them. Many families refused to accept any kind of service from HIV people.
Hosts breakfast
Mr. Vikas Raj hosted breakfast to the HIV-positive persons at his bungalow on Tuesday to interact and know first hand their predicament. Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy, IKP Project Director Wilsonbabu, President of Parameswari Educational Society Mohan Raju and others were present. A woman explained that her family broke up after the HIV infection was detected. Her husband died of the disease leaving two sons and her, who has also tested positive. Another woman said three persons in their family were HIV positive. They told the officials that shelter was the their immediate need. They were on the move constantly changing houses every three months. The Collector discussed the possibility for construction of a model house for affected people and dormitory for people in the advanced stage of the disease.
