Bypolls in Thiruvananthapuram district on May 30

Thiruvananthapuram: Three local self-government wards in the district will go to the polls on May 30.

The State Election Commission has announced the schedule for byelections for one ward each in the city corporation and the Kalliyoor and Kallara grama panchayats.

In the corporation, the Puthenpally seat was vacated by Independent candidate Poonthura Siraj after he was re-inducted into the People's Democratic Party. Chengode in the Kalliyoor panchayat and Muthuvila in the Kallara panchayat are the two other wards going to the polls.

The election notification will be issued on Thursday. Nomination papers can be filed up to May 11 and scrutiny will take place on May 12. The last date for withdrawing nomination is May 15. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 31.

Collector N. Ayyappan, on Tuesday, convened a meeting of returning officers and officials to assess the preparations for the elections. Election Deputy Collector K. Sukumara Pillai participated in the meeting.
