New Delhi
This is one camp that encourages kids to kick, scream and often be aggressive. While that might sound just the kind of traits that most parents don't want their children to acquire, it is all for the love of soccer. Getting kids into the World Cup fever, "Leap Years" -- an after-school facility for kids in Vasant Kunj -- is organising "Summer Soccer Camp 2006''. High in the mountains, in the fresh cool climate of the Himalayas, the camp will be held in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, in May, June and July in an incredibly green-sounding location at Pinegrove School. No gender bias in this place, to be sure: the facility is open to boys as well as girls. Targeted at children aged from 10 to 17 years, the duration of the camp will be a week. Being conducted by "Mission Kick Off'' experts, the methods of training have been applied throughout the North-East and Delhi. Apart from teaching them kicking right, the camp will also give kids a chance to learn another valuable lesson in life -- teamwork. With Chinese moving yoga, cross-country runs, friendly matches with the schools around, one thing is sure that after a week the kids will be fit and certainly enthusiastic about soccer. There will also be picnics, bonfires and a whole lot of new friends to look forward to. The camp will be held once in May, thrice in June, and then in the first week of July. -- Mandira Nayar
