MADURAI : M.G.C. Leelavathy, niece of former Chief Minister and founder of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam M.G. Ramachandran, has alleged threat to life for planning to campaign against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in Andipatti constituency in Theni district. Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, she claimed that she was being bullied through several anonymous phone calls. However, the 56-year-old daughter of MGR's brother, M.G. Chakrapani, affirmed that she would go ahead with the campaign after seeking protection from the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police in Theni. Ms. Leelavathy had stirred a controversy recently after she alleged of abduction by a gang in Chennai to prevent her from filing nominations as an independent candidate in Andipatti. A complaint was lodged with the Choolaimedu police station there. Denying that she was acting at the behest of Opposition parties, she told presspersons that her aim was to defeat Ms. Jayalalithaa and not to support any other political party in the fray. She said the Chief Minister gave a deaf ear to her request to allot a house and did not respond positively to umpteen number of petitions preferred by her family members.

Later, she submitted petitions with Superintendent of Police R. Dinakaran seeking permission to start a `no-vote' campaign in Andipatti. Talking to media persons, Ms. Leelavathi said she would lure disgusted voters not to vote for any candidate in this election and appeal to true and sincere loyalists MGR not to vote for Ms. Jayalalithaa.
