Musical evening

NEW DELHI: A musical evening titled "A Festival of Creativity and Joy'' was organised by Musical Dreams, a performing arts institute, at Satya Sai Auditorium here this past week-end. The event saw the participation of students and faculty of the institute.

The festival was divided into two rounds - "Sanskriti Round'' of classical performances and "Voice of the Generation Round'' of performances based on popular movie songs.

YMCA office-bearers

NEW DELHI: Stephen DaCosta was re-elected President of the New Delhi chapter of Young Men's Christian Association for 2006-07 at a meeting of the Board of Directors this past week-end. James Thomas, R. Clement Raj Kumar and Dilip E. Williams were elected Vice-Presidents while George Varghese was elected Honorary Treasurer for the term 2006-09.

R. Sunny Joshua, Noel Vaghela, Stephen DaCosta, Vernon D'Souza and George Varghese were elected to the Board of Directors for the term 2006-09 at the annual business meeting of the Association held the same day.

Mr. DaCosta is an eminent educationist and Principal of Frank Anthony Public School here.

Concern over plight of washer-men

NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi on Tuesday expressed concern over the displacement of washer-men from "dhobi ghats'' near the banks of the Yamuna.

In a letter to Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi, he said the Government was "planning to demolish the Dhobi Ghats near the Inter-State Bus Terminal even when the washer-men displaced from the Yamuna have not been relocated''.

Mr. Mukhi urged the Lieutenant-Governor to provide alternative arrangements for the displaced washer-men before demolishing any other site.

Bio-diversity project reviewed

NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi reviewed the progress made by the Delhi Bio-Diversity Foundation's project at a meeting held at Raj Nivas here on Tuesday. A presentation detailing the progress and future plans of the Foundation was made on the occasion.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Joshi said the bio-diversity project needs to be made a visible face of Delhi and urged all stakeholders to work for its success.

Date extended

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday announced extension in the date for renewal of health trade licences, general trade licences and factory licences in all conforming areas till May 31. Licences will be renewed without any late fee. Earlier the last date was April 30.
