R.P. Moidutty dead

Thrissur: R.P. Moidutty, former district general secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), died at Chavakkad, near here, on Tuesday. He was 64.

In the 1996 Assembly elections, Mr. Moidutty was the IUML candidate in the Guruvayur constituency. He was the president of the Punnayur panchayat for long. After the 2001 Assembly elections, he was expelled from the IUML for alleged rebel activities. He then formed Orma, a politico-cultural organisation, and became its chairman. The Punnayur panchayat is currently governed by the CPI(M)-Orma alliance.
