Parle awards distributed

Chennai: Parle's annual junior cricketing awards were given away during a function at the TNCA Club here on Monday evening.

Awards were presented to Gaurav Chavan (best batsman), Akshay Darekar (best bowler), Aamir Bhorania (best fielder), all from Rizvi Springfield, Mumbai, and Himanshu Chawla (best all-rounder) and Awjit Singh (best wicket-keeper), both from DAV HSS, Chandigarh. The cricketers were presented a trophy and Rs.20,000 each.

Former India cricketers Maninder Singh and Surinder Khanna (former India opener V.B. Chandrasekar, also involved in the coaching programme, could not be present) and fitness trainer Aijaz Ashai, who worked on 20 promising youngsters at the SRMC ground for six days, participated in the function.

TNCA secretary C.R. Vijayaraghavan, Mayank Shah, who represented Parle, NCA coaches Parthasarathy Sharma, Diwakar Vasu and Vivek Jaisimha also gave away the prizes.

Himanshu Chawla has been named captain of the India under-16 School Games Federation of India team to take part in a tournament in Australia during June.
