Margao: Mahindra United played its heart out as it rallied to script a 2-1 win over Al Ahed of Lebanon in the return match of AFC Cup here on Tuesday to remain in contention for the next round. Mahindra, which drew with Al Ahed 2-2 in the away match, scored through Surajit Bose (77th) and David Adjei (78th), after El Ali had put the visitor in the lead in the 50th minute. The win takes Mahindra to six points from five matches behind A1 Maharraq (10 points) and A1 Ahed (7 points).
Must-win game
Mahindra, which plays Brothers Union of Bangladesh in its last match, needs to win and see Al Ahed lose to A1 Mahararaq to qualify as the second team from Group A. Al Maharraq has already qualified for the quarterfinals.
Dempo beaten
Later, Al Nasr of Oman kept its unbeaten record intact by beating Dempo 1-0, with M. Ashoor scoring the winner, and qualified for the next round. PTI
