Petition against Chandy

Kochi: The CPI(M) leader and MLA M.V. Jayarajan has approached the Kerala High Court seeking a declaration that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is unfit to hold the offices of Chief Minister in view of his article on Kannur in a Malayalam daily. According to Mr. Jayarajan, the Chief Minister had violated his oath of office by writing against people of Kannur. - Staff Reporter

Candidate hospitalised

KOCHI: K.N. Ravindranath, Left Democratic Front candidate, who contested the recently held elections in the Thripunithura Assembly Constituency, was admitted to a private hospital here on Tuesday as he developed abdominal problems and became unconscious. Mathew Philip, gastroenterologist at PVS Memorial Hospital, where he has been admitted, said that though his condition was stable, he had been kept under observation. - Staff Reporter

Probe against MD

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Lok Ayukta K. Sreedharan and the Up LokAyukta N. Krishnan Nair has directed a vigilance inquiry into allegations of maladministration and corruption to the tune of crores of rupees by K.P. Rajendran, managing director, Kerala Metals and Minerals (KMM) and other senior officials and contractors over the last five years. The directive came in the wake of a petition. — Staff Reporter

Karunanidhi's promise

Coimbatore: As a special gesture for the substantial Malayali population in Coimbatore district, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Former Minister injured in accident

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Minister A.C. Shanmughadas, 61, was injured when the car in which he was travelling was hit by another car at Inchivila, Parassala, on Tuesday evening. A pedestrian, Santhoshkumar, 15, was also knocked down by the car which then crashed into the former Minister's vehicle. The accident occurred when Mr. Shanmughadas; Varkala Ravikumar, State secretary, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP); and Kadakampalli Suku, NCP district president; were returning to the city after participating in an election campaign in Tamil Nadu. The injured have been admitted to Medical College Hospital (MCH).

Mata Amritanandamayi arrives on May 12

Thrissur: Mata Amritanandamayi, head of the Amrithanandamayi Math, will arrive at Thrissur on May 12 on a two-day visit. She will lead the first anniversary celebrations of Brahmasthana temple here, according to a press release. — Staff Reporter

Child found abandoned

Thrissur: A three-week-old girl child was found abandoned near a school attached to the Palayur Pilgrim Centre on Monday night. After being alerted by Fr. George Chirammel, rector of the church, the police got the child examined at Government Medical College and then handed her over to an orphanage at Pullazhi. — Staff Reporter

Man, child found dead

Idukki: In a suspected suicide pact, a farmer and his daughter were found dead in their house at Uppukandom, near Erattayar, on Tuesday. T N Prakash, 42, and his daughter, Anumol, reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison, while his son, Praveen, was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, police said. The reason for the extreme step was not immediately known, the police said. — UNI

Zyphoria starts tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBITS, the association of Computer Science and Information Technology of Caarmel Engineering College, Perunad, Pathanamthitta, is organising Zyphoria, a National Level Technical Fest, on May 4.

The festival will start at 9 a.m. at Dr. Alexander Marthoma Auditorium, Thiruvalla. Participants can showcase their technical and managerial skills at the festival. Competition such as Paper Presentation, Technical Quiz, Best Manager, Programming and Network Gaming will be conducted. Technical talks will be held by eminent personalities from the IT sector. Around 1,000 B.Tech. and MCA students from different colleges in India are expected to take part in this technical extravaganza. Spot registration can be done at the venue. — Staff Reporter
