HYDERABAD : Governor Rameshwar Thakur has prorogued the sixth session of the 12th State Assembly which commenced on February 14, 2006, according to a press notification issued by the Legislature Secretariat. - Special Correspondent

`Pseudo naxalite' hacked to death

ANANTAPUR : A `pseudo naxalite' was allegedly shot and hacked to death by the outfit he used to work with a few years ago between Upparahal and Krishnapuram village of Bommanahal mandal in the district on Tuesday.

According to the police, one Adinarayana Reddy, 30, was an active member of self-styled CPI (ML-Naxalbari) for several years and was allegedly indulged in several docoities and robbers in the area. He was an accused in about 30 such criminal cases registered in Anantapur, Bellary and Chitradurg district. - Staff Reporter

Farmer ends life

ANANTAPUR : The burden of debt compounded by failure of borewell allegedly led to suicide of a farmer in the district on Tuesday. The farmer ended life by consuming pesticide after his two-acre sunflower standing crop withered due to borewell failure.

According to the police, K. Venkata Naidu, 30, of Pullalarevu village in Rapthadu mandal took the extreme step due to mounting debt. - Staff Reporter

Worker electrocuted

Sangareddy : Nalla Naresh, 23, of Hanmanthpur was electrocuted while trying to install a single-phase transformer at Chinnagottimikkala village of Sivampet mandal on Tuesday. Naresh, who worked for a contractor, was asked to do the job. He took the mandatory line clearance order from the Transco JE of Sivampet, but when he started working on the transformer high voltage passed through him killing him instantly. - Staff Reporter

TJS chief clarifies on training

Sangareddy : Telangana Jagarana Sena chief Umakanth on Tuesday said at Narsapur that physical training imparted to its members was to instil self-confidence and not to indulge in violence. He said that the TJS aims at recruiting one-lakh soldiers from 470 mandals in 10 Telangana districts. - Staff Reporter

Suspected naxals torch RTC bus

KARIMNAGAR : Suspected naxalites belonging to the CPI (Maoist) group have set fire to an RTC bus at Dharmaram bus station complex on Tuesday.

According to the police, bus crew members were sleeping in a shop when the bus was torched. A passenger, who was sleeping in the bus station, noticed the fire and alerted RTC authorities. The bus was partially damaged. - Staff Reporter

SCs allege attack on houses

KURNOOL : A group of Scheduled Caste persons alleged attack on their houses at Arekal village in Adoni mandal of Kurnool district on Tuesday.

According to reports, the miscreants carried out an attack on eight houses of dalits and ransacked the belongings. An attempt of chain-snatching by a person was said to have caused the rift in the village. The police rushed to the village and brought the situation under control. - Staff Reporter

BC panel public hearings

HYDERABAD : The Andhra Pradesh Commission for Backward Classes will conduct public hearings/sittings on May 23 for removal of district restrictions in respect of `Vada balija' and `Turpu Kapu' castes and on May 24 for adding synonyms pertaining to `Vamsaraj/Pitchiguntla/Kuntimalla Reddy' castes.

In a press release on Tuesday, commission member V. Krishna Mohan Rao gave details of public hearings on the issue of castes that were sought to be included. - Staff Reporter

`Aasha' rally

CHITTOOR : Animal Husbandry Minister Gollapalli Surya Rao flagged off a rally marking the launch of the Aasha-II programme here on Tuesday.

Government Chief Whip Kiran Kumar Reddy and Collector S.S. Rawath participated in the programme. The Minister urged health workers to bring awareness among people about the impact of AIDS and the need to prevent its spreading. - Correspondent

Free medical camp

KURNOOL: A free medical camp was conducted for asthma patients in connection with the World Asthma Day here on Tuesday. Retired chest specialist G. Kullayappa examined the patients while Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy formally inaugurated the camp. Around 200 patients were examined and medicines worth Rs.20, 000 were given free of cost.

Inhalers gave tremendous relief to the patients without affecting the quality of life, Dr. Kullayappa said. — Staff Reporter

Courier staff's protest

WARANGAL: The Warangal District Courriers Association decided to observe bandh on May 3 protesting the proposed Postal Bill.

Association president K Sekhar Reddy said to register their protest, they would take out a rally. The proposed Postal Bill would render 15 lakh youth jobless. — Staff Reporter

Two more financiers arrested

Kakinada: Two more financiers of G.Mamidada village -- Dwarampudi Veera Venkata Raghava Reddy (38) and Karri Subbareddi (46) -- were arrested and produced before the Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate court here on Tuesday in connection with the alleged assault on Income Tax officials during their raids to detect tax evasion cases, according to police.

Effigy burnt

Kakinada: A number of teachers and employees under the aegis of the district unit of the United Teachers Federation (UTF) took out a rally in the main streets of the city on Tuesday protesting against the holding of Asian Development Bank meetings at Hyderabad. They also burnt an effigy of the bank at the Balaji tank centre. - Correspondent

Srikakulam: The names of office-bearers of Srikakulam District Congress Committee were announced by its president, Boddepalli Sathyavathi, here on Tuesday. It has eight vice-presidents and an equal number of general secretaries and secretaries besides six joint secretaries and 13 executive members. N.
