KOZHIKODE: Ombudsman for local bodies T.K. Chandrasekharadas has ordered the removal of encroachments on roads in the city. This follows a complaint about encroachments at busy roads and junctions filed by president of Citizens Committee T.F. Sathaf. It said that dealers of scrap and lorry-workers had grabbed public land on Arabind Ghosh Road. The Ombudsman in its order on Wednesday asked the Regional Joint Director (municipalities) to give a report on steps taken to remove the encroachments on Arabind Ghosh Road, Cherootty Road and Convent Road. The official has also been asked to monitor the action taken by the Corporation authorities. The Corporation Secretary informed the Ombudsman that speedy steps would be taken to remove the encroachments.
Waste disposal
The Ombudsman also asked the Superintendent of Kozhikode Medical College Hospital to furnish information about the steps taken to set up a plant to dispose of waste and effluents from the hospital. The information has to be made available at the next sitting of he Ombudsman. This order was passed on a petition submitted by the committee demanding elimination of environmental pollution at Kozhikode Medical College. At its sitting on Wednesday, the Ombudsman examined 22 cases. Five of these were disposed of. Complaints from Malappuram and Kannur districts would be taken up on Thursday.
