Special Correspondent Pondicherry: Police have registered a case against a man for allegedly stocking rice in his house at Tiruvandarkoil near here for free distribution to voters. The election authorities had filed a complaint and seized the stock. District Election Officer of Pondicherry G Theva Needhi Dhas said in a release on Thursday that the Election Vigilance Squad received information that Sridhar had stocked rice bags for distribution to the voters. A team of officers from police and revenue departments conducted search operations in the house on Wednesday and seized 17 bags of rice (each having 25 kilograms rice) and another bag weighing 50 kilograms. The Election Officer said that Sridhar himself had confessed that the rice was meant for distribution free of cost to the voters. In another instance the police of Kalapet village seized five bags with five-kilograms rice each.
