Pondicherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has assured that each of the 10,000 poor families would be extended housing subsidy after revising it from present Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh a family under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Housing Scheme now in operation here. Hitting campaign trail in Lawspet Assembly constituency wooing support of voters for the Congress nominee M O H F Shah Jahan on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that presently only 7,500 families were being covered under the project to convert the huts into concrete structures. This would raise to 10,000 families, if the Congress had another opportunity. He also sought the support of the voters for the nominees of the parties affiliated to the DPA. He said that the free rice of ten kilo per ration card normally available during rainy days would be available on regular basis every month. He said that the sanction of free cooking gas connection would be raised from 10,000 families a year to 25,000 families. There would be sanction of cent per cent assistance to students doing professional courses after admission into the institutions and higher education through CENTAC (Centralised Admission committee).
