BANGALORE: A Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court, comprising Justice N.K. Patil and Justice V. Jagannathan, has ordered issue of notice to the State and other respondents on a public interest litigation by Saroja, president of the Aligadda Nivasita Kelasagarara Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha. It sought a direction to stop the stocking, loading, unloading and transport of iron ore and manganese from Aligadda in Baithkol in Uttara Kannada district. She said the activities were causing environmental damage and hardship to the people.
Hearing adjourned
The High Court on Thursday adjourned by two weeks the hearing of a bail petition by Tanveer, who was arrested by the Bangalore city police a few years ago. According to the police, Tanveer and other accused were nabbed near the Bangalore Palace Grounds after a gunfight. The police filed a case against Tanveer under Sections 399, 400, 332, 307 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act. The State sought time to file a counter petition. Justice V. Jagannathan adjourned the hearing.
