A charismatic leader, says Jayalalithaa

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has paid encomiums to the late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan.

"Shri Mahajan was a charismatic and dynamic leader, who represented the generation next of the BJP. He was a magnetic personality, a powerful orator, consummate organiser and negotiator, who galvanised the youth in his party," she said in a statement.

She said Mahajan was well read and one of the talented, well-informed youthful voices to be heard in Parliament, "contributing significantly" to the quality of debate. "His untimely death in tragic circumstances leaves behind a void not only in the BJP but also in the Indian political firmament," she added, conveying her condolences to his family. BJP vice-president L. Ganesan said Mahajan was a multi-faceted personality and known for his oratorical and organisational skills, and insightful participation in Parliament.
