SRIKAKULAM: Deputy Director General (Recruiting zone Chennai) Brigadier G.Jayakumar on Thursday urged candidates appearing for the on-going Army recruitment here, not to be carried away by the promises of middlemen as the recruitment would be a transparent process and the only criteria was merit. Speaking to mediapersons at the Kodi Ramamurthy stadium here, Brigadier Jayakumar said that in the last few years the intake from the State into the Army has been on the rise. This could be the result of steps taken by the Youth Services department for improving the standards among applicants, he remarked. However, there was shortage of persons for technical posts he said, adding that candidates with science courses at the Intermediate level would have better chance of getting into the Army. He wanted youth in rural areas to be encouraged to get into the Army. Commissioner of Youth Service G.N.Rao and District Collector A.Koteswara Rao were present. There was huge turnout of youth for the ongoing army recruitment at the stadium.
