CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has chalked out a Rs. 24.38- crore plan for development of sugarcane in the State, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here on Thursday. Reviewing the functioning of sugar mills at a meeting, Mr. Hooda said that the sugarcane development plan involves tissue culture technology, biological control of pests, supply of heat treated seed material besides development of high sugar improved variety. And to popularise pit planting method, the Government had decided to provide 50 per cent subsidy to the farmers. This subsidy would be utilised for purchasing pit digging machine costing Rs. 50,000. He said that with this method, farmers could get two crops of sugarcane and wheat simultaneously in a year. Also, the sugarcane yield would go up. Mr. Hooda said that a tissue culture laboratory was being set up at Karnal. Also, four biological control laboratories were coming up at Sonipat, Jind, Shahbad and Meham. Service centres were being set up in the premises of sugar mills to provide technical know-how to the farmers.
