DEHRA DUN: The mortal remains of 23-year-old Ranjit Rawat, son of Uttaranchal Pradesh Congress Committee president Harish Rawat, were consigned to flames at the Durgeshwar Mahadev Ghat in Mohanari (Bhatronjkhal) in Almora district on Thursday morning. Ranjit was killed in a tragic bus accident at Kosi Bridge in Rampur district early on Wednesday morning. Life seemed to have come to a standstill for Ranjit's two brothers and mother Basanti Devi as they stood forlorn at the largely attended funeral. A large number of people from all over the State offered their condolences to Mr. Harish Rawat. Among those who attended the funeral were Ministers Govind Singh Kunjwal and Mahendra Singh Mahra, Ajay Bhatt of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Narayanpal of the Bahujan Samaj Party, and Kashi Singh Airy and Pushpesh Tripathi of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal. Harish Durgapal, MLA, laid the wreath on behalf of Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari. The mishap on Wednesday had left a total of 21 people dead and 26 injured. Out of the 15 injured admitted to Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani, one was discharged while the condition of two continued to be serious, hospital sources said. The Leader of the Opposition, Matwar Singh Kandari , visited the injured in the hospital. The Government has announced an ex gratia relief of Rs. 1 lakh to the next of kin of those killed.
