CHANDIGARH: As part of its long-term plan to arrange maximum power, the Haryana Power Generation Corporation has signed power purchase agreements with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). An official spokesman said here on Thursday that agreements for 210 MW Unchahar Stage-III in Uttar Pradesh and 1,500 MW Kahalgaon Stage-II in the Eastern region had been signed. As per tentative allocation worked out by NTPC, Haryana is likely to get 10 MW out of this 210 MW project which would start power generation from September this year. Similarly, an agreement has been signed for purchase of power from Kahalgaon Power Project Stage-II scheduled to start generation from March 2007. The State's share in this 1,500 MW project could be 42 MW. These projects are being developed under the Centre's mega power policy and enjoy fiscal benefits resulting in lower tariffs. Earlier, the power purchase agreements had been signed for coal fired generating stations of 1,980 MW capacity each at Barh in Patna district of Bihar and North Karanpura near Tandwa town in Hazaribagh and Chatra districts of Jharkhand. Haryana would get 68 MW power from each project.
