Vindhya
THENI: Voters of Andipatti, who witnessed a `war of words' of top leaders of all parties, were delighted to watch a colourful, fun-filled and much-awaited `star wars' taking place in the Chief Minister's constituency over the past few days. Even an hour-long wait did not frustrate or anger the people of urban and rural areas. With glowing eyes, rural women were happy to see film stars at close quarters. Following actors Murali, Senthil and Ramarajan, hero of rural masses, leading lady Vindhya was here to woo voters, all infavour of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Clad in bright red sari, Vindhya, along with film poet Snegan and choreographer Girija, met the people individually in many villages. Waving her two fingers, Ms. Vindhya said the Chief Minister had eradicated video piracy and saved the film industry. "She was the saviour of the film industry. She would solve your problems too, on no time." Many did not bother about what she said. What mattered most was her presence in their villages. At Anuppampatti, she got off the vehicle and interacted with women waiting in a queue to fetch water near a tap. It was a fun-filled entertainment with no serious politics. Actors Senthil, Murali and Ramarajan undertook an intensive campaign to keep the election heat alive in Andipatti. While Murali sang film songs to attract people, Senthil's political satire went down well with the rural audience. Matinee idols Radha Ravi and director Mano Bala too added colour to the campaign in their own cinematic style. On the other hand, actor Bhagyaraj, who campaigned for the DMK, enthralled the audience with small comic stories and compared the DMK contestants to his film characters. Actor Thyagu too pitched in for the DMK.
