Japan Bank Governor visits Metro

NEW DELHI:
The Governor of the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC), Kyosuke Shinozawa, on Thursday visited the Delhi Metro railway and spent about an hour on the system during which he travelled from Central Secretariat to Rajiv Chowk and back. Mr Shinozawa and the delegation accompanying him was briefed about the Metro project by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E. Sreedharan.
The visit assumes significance as JBIC has provided 60 per cent of the cost for the construction of Phase-I of the Delhi Metro project in the form of soft loans. For the second phase, JBIC has agreed to provide 48 per cent of the estimated cost of Rs. 8,182 crores as soft loans.
Phase-II of the Delhi Metro project will cover areas such as Dilshad Garden, New Ashok Nagar, Jahangirpuri, Mundka and IIT.
