Abandoned infant's mother traced

Thiruvananthapuram: The Vizhinjam police on Thursday traced the mother of an infant boy who was found abandoned at a coconut plantation near Kottapuram church in April.

The police said the mother was a 16-year-old girl. According to the police, the girl had conceived the child after she cohabited with her stepfather.

The police have booked a case of rape against the stepfather, Sunil Kumar, 35.

The girl and her mother have been booked on the charge of abandoning an infant child under Section 317 of the Indian Penal Code.

The child is under the care of SAT Hospital authorities.

Lawyer booked

The authorities at the Central Prison on Thursday detained a 34-year-old lawyer on the charge of attempting to smuggle marijuana into the jail.

The prison authorities later handed over the lawyer, Anil, to the Poojappura police. A police official said 16 gm of ganja was found on the person of the accused.

The police said the lawyer had come to the prison to visit a convict.

The accused has been booked on the charge of violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
