NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh on Thursday lamented the water and power crisis in the city and accused the bureaucracy, including top Delhi Jal Board officials, of being indifferent to the pain and sufferings of the people. Mr. Prem Singh, who had written a strong letter to the Chief Minister last week on the poor water situation in the Capital, shot off another strong letter to Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi on Thursday complaining about the indifferent attitude of the bureaucracy including senior Delhi Jal Board officials. Mr. Singh also expressed unhappiness over the irregular and inadequate water supply in his Ambedkar Nagar constituency in South Delhi. "I am writing to you with a heavy heart about the callous attitude of some officials. These officials are taking things for granted without giving any serious thought to redress the grievances of the people. It gives me great pain to bring to your notice that the residents of my constituency are badly affected due to non-supply of potable water. The inequitable distribution of water to different localities has further aggravated the problem leading to an acute water scarcity in Delhi," the letter stated. "I had called the DJB CEO Arun Mathur and Chief Engineer B.M. Dhal for a meeting on May 1. Neither of them turned up and preferred to accompany Outer Delhi MP Sajjan Kumar to meet Chief Secretary S. Regunathan. They deliberately skipped my meeting which indicates their unbecoming attitude towards the Chair. It seems they do not feel the pain and sufferings of the people."
