NEW DELHI: Arunachal Pradesh Director-General of Police Amod Kanth was on Thursday questioned in the presence of Delhi's Special Commissioner of Police U.K. Katna here in connection with alleged goof-ups in the Jessica Lal murder case when he was Joint Commissioner of Police in the Capital. Mr. Kanth was recently asked over the telephone to meet Mr. Katna for clarifications on certain points on the basis of which the nine accused in the case were acquitted by the trial court this past February. Accordingly, Mr. Kanth met Mr. Katna at the Economic Offences Wing office in the Qutab Institutional Area of South Delhi in the afternoon. "I cannot reveal what we discussed but the conversation revolved around some of the points in the acquittal order," said Mr. Kanth later, reiterating that he and the then Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhir Yadav had informed the then Police Commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma about tampering with the evidence, including the two empties recovered from the scene of crime. Mr. Kanth was reportedly asked if he had advised Jessica's sister Sabrina to convince Police Commissioner K.K. Paul to involve the then case investigating officer, Surender Sharma, the then Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhir Yadav and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Gogia in the reinvestigation. Earlier, the Special Investigation Team headed by Mr. Katna had questioned Vivek Gogia and Sudhir Yadav for clarifications regarding the goof-ups in the case.
