New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition challenging The Hindu-CNN-IBN Poll for the Kerala Assembly elections. A Bench consisting of Justices Ruma Pal and A.K. Mathur asked petitioner Benedict Bobby to file an application for impleading himself in the main case pending before another Bench. A businessman and voter in Kerala, Mr. Bobby said poll surveys published and telecast in the print and electronic media confused the people in the run-up to the polls. Describing the survey as unscientific, he said it was conducted even before a clear picture of the elections emerged among the voters. Contending that the publication of opinion and exit polls constituted an offence under the Representation of the People Act, he sought a direction to the Election Commission to enforce the guidelines on their publication and telecast.
