Curfew to be relaxed further in Vadodara
Special Correspondent
VADODARA:
The Army will be withdrawn from two of the six curfew-bound police station areas in Vadodara from 6 a.m. on Saturday as the situation is improving. However, the Army will continue to stage flag marches in the city, Vadi, Panigate and Navapura areas, Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop said on Friday. The curfew would remain in force in all the areas on Saturday but with increased relaxation period of four hours for all.
The curfew was relaxed for three hours on Friday but only for women and children to purchase essential commodities. The relaxation period passed off peacefully.
Miscreants set fire to a small roadside temple in the Akota suburb but the locals doused it even before the police reached the spot. Despite the curfew, Muslims were allowed to go to mosques to offer Friday `namaaz'. Many non-governmental organisations held meetings and rallies for peace in the affected areas.
Mr. Swaroop said the situation was under control, and normality would be restored soon.
