Committed to quota for Muslims: YSR

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has reiterated that the Government is committed to providing 5 per cent reservation for Muslims and all efforts are being made for its implementation.

Dr. Reddy reviewed the issue with Ministers and senior officials here on Friday. He was informed that senior advocate of Supreme Court Shakeel Ahmed was being appointed advocate-on-record exclusively to monitor the issue on a day-to-day basis. - Special Correspondent

Two SSC students commit suicide

ANANTAPUR: Two SSC students - Harish, 16, and Sunanda, 16 - committed suicide on Friday after failing in the examination, the results of which were announced on Thursday.

According to the police, while Harish jumped across a running train in Gutakal, Sunanda of Muchukota village in Pedda Pappur mandal consumed pesticide. - Staff Reporter

Former MLA bereaved

VISAKHAPATNAM: Dinesh Kumar Bhanj Deo, 18, son of former Salur MLA R.P. Bhanj Deo, was drowned in the temple tank of Ramatheerthalu on Friday.

Dinesh, a student of Sainik School in Korukonda went to the temple along with his friends. He died while having a dip before having darshan. - Special Correspondent

Watery grave for two boys

ADILABAD: Posham, 7, and Raju, 5, belonging to Annaram in Kotapally mandal were drowned in a water tank on Friday. They went to tank to play while their parents were working in nearby fields. - Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA: Minister for Tourism J. Geeta Reddy on Friday inaugurated the renovated Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporia at Tirumala.

Lift criminal cases against villagers: POW

HYDERABAD: The Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) has sought lifting of criminal cases against 72 persons of Jaggaram village in Dammapeta mandal of Khammam district following a raid on an orchard belonging to a tribal leader.

POW leaders V. Sandhya and G. Jhansi told newsmen on Friday that the arrested included 20 womenwho were lodged in Warangal Central Jail. - Special Correspondent

APRJC CET tomorrow

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Residential Schools Society is through with arrangements for conduct of APRJC CET-2006 on May 7 at 9 a.m. It has already despatched hall-tickets to candidates, according to D. Ravindranatham, Secretary.

AIYF urges State to fill Group II posts

HYDERABAD: The State council of All-India Youth Federation (AIYF) called upon the Government to fill vacant Group II posts through the 2004 notification so as to render justice to the unemployed.

G. Eshwaraiah, general secretary, in a release here on Friday urged the Government to implement the AP Administrative Tribunal order on the issue.

Two SSC students share top honours

TIRUPATI: T. Devakumar of Gurukul school (Gyarampalle) and T. Manoj of Vijayabharati school (Madanapalle) shared top honours in Chittoor district by scoring 573 out of 600 marks in the SSC examination, the results of which were announced on Thursday. Of the overall pass percentage of 66.36, girls fared better with a pass percentage of 67.13, In Tirupati, C. Ramya Swati of RR High School topped with 569 marks. - Staff Reporter

YSR to visit Banaganapalli on May 9

KURNOOL: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will visit Banaganapalli in Kurnool district on May 9, according to reports. Dr. Reddy will take part in the gram sabha and address public meeting as part of his campaign in the villages covered by Indiramma programme. - Staff Reporter

Coop. sugar factories to be developed

CHITTOOR: Minister for Tourism and Sugar Industry Geeta Reddy said here on Thursday that cooperative sugar factories in the State would be developed at a cost of Rs. 300 crores. - Correspondent

Milk bulk centres

MADANAPALLE: Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy speaking at a ryot sadassu held at Z.P. High School here on Friday said milk bulk centres would be set up with National Dairy Development Board's help. By the end of next month, the target 60,000 lakh litres of milk collection would be reached. - Correspondent

Union Minister to visit Eluru

ELURU: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare P. Lakshmi will arrive here on Sunday to take part in a several programmes.

According to an official press release, the Minister will inaugurate SC & ST Postal Employees Welfare Association office building near Head Post Office and participate in the third annual conference of the association. Reconstruction of clock tower sought

Kakinada: Senior leader of CPI and former vice-chairman of the municipality Ponnamanda Ramachandra Rao has appealed to city Mayor Kavikondala Saroja on Thursday to take steps for the reconstruction of an age-old clock tower that was demolished during the late fifties, in the process of constructing a new bridge across the Upputeru in Jagannadhapuram.

He regretted that despite repeated appeals, the authorities have failed to fulfill their promise. - Correspondent

YSR for Srikakulam

SRIKAKULAM: Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy will visit Srikakulam district on May 12 and participate in the second phase of Praja Patham programme in a village selected under Indiramma programme.

The first phase of Praja Patham had been held in villages not covered under Indiramma programme. District Collector A. Koteswara Rao and Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar Sinha on Friday visited two villages viz M. Singupuram and Neelanagaram, to finalise the venue of Dr. Reddy's meeting.
