Five dead as heat wave intensifies

Lucknow: Heat wave conditions intensified in Uttar Pradesh on Friday with the mercury soaring to 46 degrees Celsius in Jhansi and five people died of heat in parts of the State since Thursday.

Jhansi at 46 degrees was the hottest place in the State and temperature hovered between 37 and 43 degrees in parts of the State, according to the weather office here.

Two people died of heat in Ballia, one each in Mau, Azamgarh and Jaunpur districts since Thursday, reports reaching here said.

There would be no respite from heat in the next 24 hours, the weather office said.

Ranchi: The maximum temperature in Ranchi recorded was 37.4 degrees and the minimum 22.1 degrees Celsius.

Meteorological department sources here said that the humidity in the morning was 57 per cent while in the evening it was 29 per cent.
