HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur on Friday called on ailing Manjula, wife of Taliban victim K. Suryanarayana, at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) at Somajiguda. Mrs. Kaur enquired about clinical status of Manjula who is admitted in Gastrointestinal Intensive Care Unit. She also saw the virtual CT scan pictures of the patient. Dr. D. Nageshwara Reddy, Director of the Institute, explained the sequence of events and serious clinical status in which Manjula was admitted with corrosive injuries to her oesophagus and stomach. Manjula was admitted to the hospital after she attempted suicide at her house at East Anandbagh on Monday. Mrs. Kaur spoke to Manjula and reassured her of her support and conveyed her condolences. She then spoke to parents and brother of Manjula and wished fast recovery for the patient. Mrs. Kaur complimented the hospital doctors for the excellent care and facilities provided at the institute. According to Dr. Reddy, Manjula is still in Gastrointestinal Intensive Care Unit. She is showing marginal improvement. Her vitals are being carefully monitored and her damage to the food pipe and stomach is being treated with medication. Doctors are also planning to conduct endoscopic therapy after she comes out from the present health status. Meanwhile, Governor Rameshwar Thakur called on Manjula and enquired about her health condition.
