BANGALORE: Bangalore Central Prison officials are working on upgrading the videoconferencing unit installed two years ago in the Special Court trying the multi-crore stamp paper racket cases to enable multi-screen facility as requested by the court. According to Deputy Inspector General (Central Prison) B.S. Abbai, who is the nodal officer for providing the videoconferencing facility for the stamp paper racket cases, HCL, the company that installed the unit, will shortly demonstrate its multi-screen equipment to the court. The company will then give a quotation for upgrading the unit. "The quotation will be placed before the State Government for sanction," Mr. Abbai told The Hindu . The Special Judge presiding over the court, Vishwanath Virupax Angadi, had said the multi-screen facility would help the court save time in trying the accused, who are lodged in different prisons. The accused, including Abdul Kareem Telgi, are in Pune, Mumbai and Delhi central jails. With the current videoconferencing equipment, the accused are produced in turns before the judge. The multi-screen facility will not only enable all the accused to be produced at the same time, but also save time, the judge had said.
Three locations
Mr. Abbai said the multi-screen facility would help the court interact with three different locations simultaneously. While one screen would show the Special Court, three other screens would display images of other locations, he said.
