SSC recounting

HYDERABAD: Candidates who appeared for SSC public examination in March 2006 and desire to apply for recounting of marks can submit their requisition in a specified proforma till June 3.

Students have to give the name, roll number, subjects applied for, school name, address for communication and the DD or challan number enclosed with the form. The marks sheet obtained from the Internet also has to be attached. The fee is Rs. 150 per subject to be paid in the form of a DD obtained from SBH or SBI in favour of Secretary to Commissioner for Government Examinations, A.P., Hyderabad. -Staff Reporter

Bandh peaceful

HYDERABAD: The State-wide bandh sponsored by Maoists against the recent encounter killing in Kadapa district passed off peacefully on Saturday.

Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen said there were no bandh related incidents, except stoppage of a couple of RTC buses on Srisailam road.

Meanwhile, RTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director M.V. Krishna Rao said 98.96 per cent of scheduled services were operated during. - Special Correspondent

Death condoled

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy expressed grief at the death of veteran Kannada film producer and writer Pattabhirama Reddy (87) at Bangalore on Saturday.

In a condolence message, Dr. Reddy said the film industry had lost an illustrious son of the soil. The message said Reddy never compromised on moral values and set best standards in producing films like `Pellinati Pramanalu', `Samskara', `Ritu Samhara' and `Devarakadu'. The Chief Minister recalled Reddy's contribution to Telugu literature, quoting his `Fidelu Ragalu'. - Special Correspondent

Dismissed from service

HYDERABAD: The Government dismissed a former Regional Deputy Director of Indian medicine and Homeopathic department G.V. Subrahmanyeswara Rao from service following his conviction in a corruption case. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught him seven years ago when he allegedly received Rs. 6,000 from his sub-ordinate in connection with a service matter while heading Eluru division. - Staff Reporter

Sentenced to RI

HYDERABAD: A special court has sentenced a former junior assistant of Mallial Mandal Revenue Office in Karimnagar district D. Pullaiah to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year, as he was found guilty of corruption charges. He was arrested by the ACB eight years ago on charge of receiving Rs. 1,000 bribe from a complainant. - Staff Reporter

Four persons drowned

KARIMNAGAR: In a freak mishap, four Lord Hanuman devotees were drowned in the Godavari at the tri-junction of Godavari, Indravathi and Saraswathi rivers at Kaleshwaram in Mahadevpur mandal on Saturday morning.

According to the police the four from Ramakrishnapur of Adilabad district have been identified as S. Ravi (25), S. Satish (20), G. Ravi (28) and E. Venu (24). - Staff Reporter

Leaves for Stockholm

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector Praveen Prakash left for Stockholm, Sweden, on Saturday to receive the prestigious `Stockholm IT challenge award'. Of the 1,155 projects spread over 102 countries in six categories, 150 were selected for the award, which includes the Rajiv Internet Village programme. Mr. Praveen Prakash has been selected to receive the award on behalf of our State. - Correspondent

Temple fete begins

TIRUMALA: The three-day annual `Padmavathi Parinayotsavam' began on a colourful note on Saturday. The bejewelled processional deities of the Lord along with his two divine consorts were taken out in a grand procession on `Gaja Vahanam' to the Narayanagiri Gardens where the ritual was performed. - Staff Reporter

Woman dies of viral fever

Eluru: A woman, Choutapalli Gangamma, 43, died of viral fever at Adamilli in West Godavari district on Saturday, taking the toll to seven.

According to the information available, she died after suffering from the disease for a month. Incidentally, her husband Nageswara Rao is also reportedly bedridden with high fever for the past 10 days.

Local MLA Ghanta Muraliramakrishna promised to see to it that financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 is sanctioned to the victim's husband under the National Family Benefit Scheme.

Meanwhile, there appears to be no signs of abatement of the outbreak of viral fever in the village. Over 150 persons with symptoms of the disease were admitted in the three make-shift hospitals set up in the village today - while, 41 patients were shifted to Eluru government hospital. Three ANMs who contracted viral fever while on duty were substituted. - Staff Reporter

Free yoga camp for women

Rajahmundry : Free yoga camp for women will be held here from May 8.

In a statement on Saturday, yoga master Devarapalli Raghavulu said the classes would be organised at Sri Gowthami Public School campus-I in Gandhipuram between 6.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.

Man electrocuted

Kakinada : A person, Kandula Adinarayana, 30, was electrocuted when he came into contact with electricity line while climbing the ladder with a head load of cement for his house under construction at Yedida village of Mandapet mandal on Friday. He fell down and died.

In another incident, a farm worker, Penugonda Simhachalam, 50, was knocked down fatally by a tractor while crossing the road in front of panchayat office at Katravulapalli village of Jaggampet mandal on Friday night.- Staff Reporter

Borewell seized

KURNOOL: Collector Vikas Raj ordered closure of a borewell that was sunk against the provisions of Water, Land and Tree Act at Gadivemula in Kurnool district. According to reports, a farmer, Sivaramaiah, complained to the Collector that his neighbour Venkatrami Reddy dug a borewell close to his well causing drying up of the well. - Staff Reporte

Hospital's gesture

VISAKHAPATNAM : Rotary Netra rural eye hospital, Pendurthy, distributed special equipment to 60 low vision children of Narsipatnam, Vaddadi and Vizianagaram. Low vision is a disease where sight cannot be restored either through surgery or glasses.

To use the residuary vision, they need special equipment to carry on their normal activity. The equipment was donated by Rotary Club Matteson of Chicago and arranged by Rotary Governor-Elect K. Chaya Devi. - Staff Reporter
