Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
New Jersey-based St. Joseph Hospital has donated $ 5,000 and two non-resident Indians from US have contributed $ 3,000 to Bharat Vikas Parishad Bajaj Rural Development Trust for constructing shelters for tsunami victims, physically challenged people, orphans and others.
B.A.R. Krishna Moorthy, president of the city-based trust, said in a press release on Saturday that the organisation had approached the US Women's Guild, Vienna (Austria) for assistance. It was likely to receive US $10,000 by October this year.
He said the shelters would initially accommodate more than 50 persons. The ultimate goal would be to provide shelter for 1,000 persons. The trust had already started construction of a shelter at Mypadu, Nellore district for rehabilitation of tsunami victims.
